My current "me-time" project

I was so excited to be able to decorate the nursery for my first grand daughter. Even though they were living in an apartment I was able to do a jungle theme that has moved and grown with her.

Of course I had my own baby just 4 months later so I got to do a whole different nursery right away. I'm not sure what you'd call the theme but I wanted dark woods, navy blue and pale yellow for the color scheme and sort of old fashioned textiles that looked a bit worn. I'm still really pleased with how his room turned out even if he rarely sleeps in it! (That's another, whinier blog entry.) My good friend and neighbor painted a mural for him that was inspired by a napkin for the baby shower. And somewhere I came across a pattern for the crib quilt that I instantly loved and modified for use on the windows, window seat and diaper stacker. Now I'm excited to be able to do a nursery set for my 2nd grand daughter. Her mom wanted pink and brown for the color scheme (cute!) but left the rest to me. I decided to go with patchwork in varying textures. Here's the crib quilt layout. Hopefully the different textures show up in the pictures.

I'm planning to do a sort of tie/quilt "fake out" with some ribbon and decorative stitches. I try to work on it whenever I get a baby-free moment which is to say, not enough. LOL Well, she's only 2.5 months old. Hopefully she won't hold it against me that it wasn't done before she was born. :-P
