We haven't really been using chore charts for the last few years. They were very effective for the older four kids because they were similar in age and abilities. But I could never find a system that felt right for the big age differences of the last three kids.
I felt inspired to make an attempt on Monday of this week. And it's working well so far.
But Jaxon is so unfamiliar with the concept that it has led to some amusing conversations.
Here are just 3 examples from yesterday.
(He calls his chart a "list")
First thing in the morning-
Me: Jaxon! You slept in your own bed all night long. I'm so proud of you!
Him: Is that on my list?
At breakfast-
Me: You need to finish your breakfast.
Him: (takes a bite) Is eating food even if you don't like it on the list?
Me: No. That's not on the list.
Him: It should be.
At bath time-
He got into the tub and then realized he needed to go to the bathroom.
Me: You should pee standing up so you don't get the toilet seat wet.
He does.
Him: You better tell me THAT is on the list.
This was not the first time this week that this particular omission from the list has been pointed out. Apparently this is something he feels should warrant a sticker!
Haha! That kid cracks me up. Non stop funny stuff all day every day.
Well, when he isn't making messes or having a tantrum or waking me up two or three times a night.
Still, I'll take it. :)
