This and That

Oh! Hey! Remember me?
I guess I pretty miserably failed that blog every day challenge, huh?
What's been going on around here? Hmm....Let's see...

~Roger and I went to a play last night. Tale of Two Cities. It was incredible! I cry pretty regularly over sappy TV shows, certain songs and even commercials. But I rarely cry at a play. This one was an exception. Now I want to read the book again. I read it a very long time ago. So long ago that I kind of forgot that I've read it before until I saw the play.

~I am ACHING, positively ACHING to plant something! I missed having a garden last year during the house transition. The one we had the year before that was so much fun. One big obstacle to having a garden here is that there are about a dozen deer who roam through the neighborhood at night. We love them. They're beautiful creatures. But I'm not interested in planting a buffet for them. It's okay though. I think I found a solution! I'm so excited about it. I'll post more on that later.

~I can feel Spring just around the corner. I've always preferred cold weather over hot weather. But this winter has been especially COLD for me for some reason. In years past I have rarely even worn a coat outside. Just didn't care for the bulk, ya know? But this year I have turned into a little old lady always shuffling around in a heavy sweater IN THE HOUSE. So I'm looking forward to warmer weather for once.

~Even though the weather is still a little cool, we've been enjoying grilling more just lately. One of my favorite ways to cook because...well...I sort of just let Roger do it. :) We even lit the firepit for last week's family dinner and we're planning to have a fire again tonight when the family is here for dinner.

~Have I mentioned how much I love family dinner? It's my favorite night of the week. It's crazy loud and chaotic and, frankly, exhausting. But also SOOOO wonderful to have some time to just chat with the grown kids and love on the grandbabies and laugh over their funny little antics. Family is the BEST. Wouldn't trade it for a thing!

~That renewal of school thing? bah... I really wanted to go the actual diploma route because I love learning so much. But it turns out that it's more busy work than learning. Good heavens, I PRAY that the kids actually attending high school right now are getting more out of that education than can be contained in a poorly photocopied, thin packet of papers. So...I'm switching up that plan a little. I'm just going to go ahead and get my GED and then look into some college classes. Jaxon will be going to Kindergarten this Fall. That would be a good opportunity to take a class or two.

~Jaxon is going to Kindergarten this Fall. *gasp!* I'm not one of those mom's that gets all sad and choked up about sending the kids off to school. I really love watching the little chicks take flight and explore the world. But it is a bit mind boggling. I'll be home without a preschooler for the first time in what? TWENTY years? Huh. I wonder what that's like?

~My blog still matters to me. I was thinking about a month ago that maybe it just doesn't matter anymore. Why else would I have slacked off so much. And it's okay to move on to other things. I wasn't feeling bad about it. Just thinking that maybe it was a "season" that had passed. So I just let it sit for awhile. But then I'd start thinking about when the grandbabies were born, when someone got married, our first succesful garden, and I'd go back to read my blog from those times and I'd get the warm fuzzies all over again.
So, it matters.

~One reason I haven't wanted to blog too much, is that I am a visual person. I want to see pictures! Sadly, our camera is not up to the task. :( It takes a decent picture if you're outside, on a beautiful day. Otherwise...not so much. I need to find a way to afford a new one.

I'm off to do some cleaning and get ready for family dinner. See ya soon!
