I grabbed a bag of bread heels that I've been saving in the freezer and we went to find some seagulls or ducks to feed.
There was not a bread hungry bird in sight at the park so we played for a little bit and then drove out to the Great (Stinky) Salt Lake.
There were hundreds of seagulls there. They were only about 50 yards away from us but they couldn't be coaxed by our stale bread. I guess they must eat pretty well out there.(BTW Anyone know how to get a 3 year old little boy to cooperate for a decent haircut?)
So we got back in the van, grabbed some lunch for the kids, and drove to our neighborhood parking lot. And within 5 minutes we had a whole flock of our own!It only took that long because there was a guy in a red car feeding them french fries. We had to wait till his fries were gone. But then they were all ours.
Jaxon said, "The other birds didn't like our bread. These birds like our bread."
Except this one. He just hung out in pretty much this exact spot the whole time we were there. And never ate a single piece of bread. I guess he was holding out for something better.
Emily threw out a whole piece of bread and we had fun watching this bird grab it and then fly off with 3 or 4 other gulls hot on his tail. He kept flying around and around barely staying ahead of the would be thieves. That was so entertaining we did it a couple more times.Equally amusing was Jaxon working on his seagull impersonation. Which is actually pretty decent with his squeaky voice from having been sick.
It was fun little morning activity and Jaxon went right down for his nap as soon as we got home.I think the fresh air did us all some good.
This is Emily's last week off track. We haven't been able to do much with everyone being sick. Maybe we can squeeze a few more fun things in this week.
