My weight this morning:
138.8
And I've lost some more inches in the past month as well.
Must be time to add a few points to my days. I am really happy where I'm at and don't want to lose any more.
Earlier this week I was reading the blog of David Kirchhoff who is the CEO of WW International and also a Lifetime Member.
He used a couple of phrases that I really liked and they've been on my mind ever since I read them.
"Flexible restraint" versus "unbridled gluttony".
Unbridled gluttony is a pretty fair description of how I lived before.
If there was a baked good in the house, I ate it until it was gone. Even if it wasn't especially good.
If we went out to eat and had something delicious to eat, I ate it ALL.
Can't choose between two yummy appetizers? Have them both!
Stuffed from dinner (and two appetizers) but LOVE the dessert here? Have it anyway!
Leftovers from a great recipe I made last night? I'll have them for breakfast AND lunch today!
ugh! No wonder I gained so much weight! It would have been a mystery if I hadn't.
Flexible restraint is a perfect description for how I'm living now.
Since I've lost weight I've heard lots of comments from friends and family about how they wish they could resist temptation or "be good" the way I do.
Ha! The secret is that I have become kind of a food snob. I don't struggle with temptation a whole lot in my every day life anymore.
If I were offered a gourmet slice of cake or a plate of homemade delicious Halloween treats I wouldn't even think twice. I'd have some! I did that just last night in fact. And they were delicious!! Thanks Lori!
But an ordinary Keebler cookie from a bag or a cake from a box holds no interest for me. I'd easily resist those.
A plate of Enchiladas Amarillos from Red Iguana? I'm eating it! Well, about 3/4 of it before I was too stuffed to eat more. Just last week. :) I also nibbled on the chips and salsa before dinner. Their salsa is awesome!
A frozen burrito? Or Taco Bell drive thru? No thanks.
So, yeah, I am exercising restraint. I won't eat the whole plate of homemade goodies anymore.
But I am flexible too. Because I really love REALLY GREAT food. And there's no way I'll ever give that up.
It's pretty easy to resist the mediocre stuff with the knowledge that the calories saved can be used on something incredible when it comes along later.
Which brings to mind something I read once about not giving up what you want most in life for what you want right now. (I have no idea where I read it. Anyone know?)
I simply want to be well and healthy more than I want most of the things that would be bad for me to eat.
The choice is usually pretty easy now that I can see it that way.

DH (who, by the way, is down 20 pounds to 184) and I loved this post. You're wrong about Taco Bell because they are bliss in a cardboard box, but otherwise we wholeheartedly concur.
LOL In my world bliss never comes in a cardboard box.
And major KUDOS to your DH! I'm so excited for him!
Trish, I love you. Thanks for being my friend! That is all.
Leggs, I didn't know that was your real name. It's so funny if you only "know" someone from PYP, you really start to think of that screen name as being who they really are!
Could the quote be from the Four Laws of Debt Free Prosperity? I know I have quoted them on PYP before.
“Don’t trade what you want most in life for what you want right now.”
“Spend the next little while doing what most people won’t, so you can spend the rest of your life doing what most people can’t.”
Thanks for the thoughts today! I loved it!
Shaz~Thanks! Right back atcha!
Eileen~ I'll bet that is it! Good stuff!
I was thinking I"d heard it on Dave Ramsey, but who knows. :) For me though the good choices and food snobbery to excercise flexible restraint depend upon making sure I eat good meals too. If I don't make a good lunch for myself, I"ll be sick from snacking by dinner.
ShazBraz: I know. It's so true. We give ourselves these funny names without thinking about it much (at least, that's what I did), and before we know it, that's who we are. LOL.
No kidding! I never intended to be a fish for so long. ;)
Very insightful stuff!!! Love this post, Trish!
Thanks for saying it so well!
