The Results Are In! I *AM* Fit By 40!

Here I am at the deadline and I accomplished what I set out to do. It feels GREAT!

The results from my physical are in and all is well.

My weight is holding steady between 138 and 140. I meant to keep it between 140 and 143 but my metabolism seems to have other plans. This is a good, healthy weight and my doc congratulated me on my success.

Thyroid tests:
TSH is 1.59 (normal is .45-4.67)
Free T4 is 1.09 (normal is .71-1.85)

Blood Pressure is 102/75

Cholesterol tests:
Total cholesterol: 161 (normal is 140-199)
Triglyceride: 66 (normal is 40-149)
HDL/good cholesterol is 59 (normal is 40-83)
LDL/bad cholesterol is 89 (normal is <100)

All other tests (CBC with Diff) were excellent as well.

Now about that biopsy...
Looks like I was right about all the sun exposure I have gotten on the top of my head for the past 40 years.
The tests came back negative for malignancy or any signs of cancer. PHEW!
But positive for "sun damage, inflammation and scarring around the hair follicles".
My doc thinks that some cortisone shots will help the inflammation and solve the pain in the area. But he wants me to see a dermatologist for treatment just to be certain.
I can't help feeling like I might have dodged a bullet here. I am TERRIBLE about protecting my skin from the sun. The doc asked me if I've ever had a bad sunburn on my scalp and I had to laugh. Only a couple dozen times. At least. And HUNDREDS of times on my face, arms, legs, etc in the past.
I will get very busy making sure there are not any sunburns in my future.
But exactly how does one protect the top of one's head? Clearly my hair is not thick enough to protect me. Hats? Scarves? Hmmm.....

So...I did it! Fit by 40!
New goal: Fit Forever!
and a little more toning ;)

I have a similar goal to get my weight under control by age 40. I turn 39 next week. This year I met goal at WW, but would still like to lose a few more pounds since I am at the very top of my healthy weight range. And I, too, would like to be a little more toned :-).

And get a tummy tuck (not going to happen).

Happy Bday, T. I hope it is a lovely day for you! Re: that scalp/sunscreen dilemma: They make a spray that goes deep past the hair and into the scalp. I used to get it at a beauty supply store (when I was out in the sun a lot). Our fair skins need to be protected ALL of the time..and skin gets more fragile after 40 ! Loves!

Yay Trish!!! Success is sweet! Health is sweeter! I'm so glad you got A's all around!
Mel's idea sounds really good about protecting the scalp... I wonder if it makes you look oily or not? Worth a try... You can always borrow my Cabela's hat... I saw you eyeing it a couple of summer's ago. ;)

Thanks everyone!

Christy~ I have tried on about a half dozen similar hats since I first saw yours. I might just have to go for it!
