This day was committed to the beach!
Jaxon was in absolute heaven in the world's biggest sandbox. That boy loves nothing more than digging in sand.
He wanted NOTHING to do with getting in the water. This was as close as he would voluntarily go.
At one point I picked him up and carried him in, thinking that I might be able to rinse the thick coat of sand off of him and maybe he would decide that he liked it. Bad idea. Very bad idea! All that accomplished was having the first three layers of skin around my neck completely "sanded" off and my ear drums assaulted by the screams of terror. Roger saved
So, he stayed a safe distance from the water for the rest of the trip.
The rest of us enjoyed the water though.
BTW This day in the sun corrected Roger's farmer tan as well as Kenzie's milky white complexion. As for the rest of us, adequate sunscreen was utilized. lol
Emily was scared to go very far out in the water until she made a friend in a girl her age. Then she hung out with her for a little while. The tide kept moving them farther and farther down the shore until she looked up and thought that we had moved our blankets and chairs away from her. Silly girl!
It was a great day. Just playing and relaxing and enjoying each other's company.

These two seemed to form a bit of a new bond during this trip. They went from being mostly annoyed by each other most of the time, to actually wanting to spend "sister time" together. It's nice to see.We made a trip to the fish market on the way back to the house. We picked up some local shrimp and scallops which Roger grilled along with some steaks for dinner.
Before dinner Roger and I took a walk to the sound end of our street. The street is about a half mile long with the ocean at one end and the sound at the other, and the house right about in the middle of the two. The sound was as pretty as the ocean, but in a more quiet, peaceful way. We met up with a local family that was catching soft shell crabs off the dock. We chatted with them for awhile about crabbing and the best place to buy local seafood and wines.
I thought it would be fun to bring the kids back to do some crabbing there another day. But they didn't think that sounded fun at all, so we never did.
At the fish market we also picked up this locally made rum cake.
We told Jaxon it was Pirate cake and he ate every bite of his dinner to be able to have some.
Then he ate his cake and some of everyone else's with enthusiasm and speed!
So funny. Truth be told, the cake wasn't really as good as you'd expect. I guess it's all about the packaging and marketing when you're 5.
By the end of this day Kenzie and Roger were really feeling the burn so I started making sightseeing (versus beach) plans for us to do for the next couple of days while they healed up a little.
