All that's left now is the alyssum that I planted where the lettuces came out in the early summer and some thyme. Also our pepper plants that never really did very well. Everything else that we planted did quite well. It was the most productive garden grown on this piece of land since I've owned it. I really liked the Square Foot Gardening method and I will definitely do it again in this spot next year. I'm also trying to talk Roger into making more garden boxes in other parts of the yard next year. I'd love to grow some viney things that wouldn't have worked in this spot.
Our tomato plants grew out of control! We planted three plants here. Yellow pear, Early girl and Mr. Stripey are the three plants we put here on purpose. And then we had a whole crop of volunteers that actually produced. Mostly red cherry. We're still getting tomatoes right now but they'll be gone soon. I'm surprised they haven't frozen yet. We won't plant Mr. Stripey again. The tomatoes grew really, really big. But by the time they ripened most of them were split so deep around the stems that there was very little useful tomato on them.I can't believe how huge the plants got. Over 6 feet tall and...
..climbing over the fence.
I'll be treasuring the spinach and basil pesto in the freezer. After tonight's dinner that will be all that's left of our garden.Next year I'll plant less lettuce.
And figure out how to grow peppers more successfully.
Other than that and the Mr Stripey issues, everything else was a success and I'll do more of the same next year. And hopefully more of some new stuff too.
