I just wanted to show you all that it really does work to buy fresh produce at a good price and then freeze it.
I paid $9.16 for five heads of cauliflower that weighed a total of 13.28 pounds.
Using these instructions I prepared and divided it all into seven 1.5 pound bags for freezing.
*This brings up another point for me. The one pound bags I can buy in the store are not enough for us for one meal. But two would be too many. Who wants all those half used bags of frozen veggies hanging around, Right?
I paid 5 cents each for the quart size freezer bags which I can wash and reuse if I'm feeling particularly frugal.
So, in the end I paid $1.36 for each bag of cauliflower that I know is completely edible.
Have you ever wondered why frozen veggies come in opaque packaging at the store? There may be other reasons that I don't know about. But one must surely be that "they" don't want you to be able to see that you're really buying a bag full of stems and stalks with just a couple of florets thrown in.
$1.36 per bag is less than Smith's is charging for the same amount of frozen cauliflower this week.
It did take me about an hour to do but I don't count that cost because it's important to me to have better quality food. As you all know, I do love food.
