There was a Mimosa tree in our backyard when I was a little girl growing up in North Carolina. I always wanted to have one here in our yard.
We finally planted one last year and it rewarded us with blooms the very first summer.
In Utah they bloom during just a few weeks in July and August. Which is roughly the same period of time that I was pregnant with the baby we lost in 2004.
That's why Roger and I finally sought one out and planted it. A nod to his/her short existence.
Unfortunately Mimosa's struggle a little without the humidity of my childhood climate and our tree didn't come back this Spring. We thought we might have to find another one. But then Roger was watering in the backyard and noticed that a new shoot is coming up from the base of the tree. As if to say, "Don't forget."
