Still going on the not a resolution.

I've been getting some feedback about my recent attempts to keep a cleaner house. Turns out I've inspired some folks to take my baby steps approach to deep cleaning and decluttering. How cool is that? I guess I'll keep rattling on then. I didn't manage any deep cleaning yesterday. Jaxon was up at 1am, 2am, 3am and then I finally got out of bed with him at 3:30 am yesterday morning. So I was a bit comatose for most of the day. I did manage to do the usual dishes, laundry and tidying up. Also cooked dinner and made homemade rolls to go with it. And got two kids to and fro some evening classes. And tracked down what must be the last pair of snowpants available for purchase in this whole valley. So I don't feel too bad.

Who the hell is buying swimsuits in Utah right now anyway?!?!?! Swimsuits! That's what is currently stocked on the clothing racks that used to hold SNOWsuits. Geez!
Sorry. I went off there for a sec.

Today is Living room day. I get to feel the payoff in this room. It's been thoroughly cleaned and now will only require a quick cleaning. Dusting will be easy because there are almost no knick knacks left in there and only one week's build up of dust. Versus the months I would have let it accumulate before. A quick swipe with some glass cleaner will have the picture frames and mirrors sparkling again. I'll do a quick fingerprint check on the doorframes and walls. That's about all it needs. Who knows, maybe I'll even make up for yesterday and get a little deep cleaning done in the kitchen. The ceiling fan is looking pretty scary. LOL

Speaking of class...
Kenzie is about 2 weeks away from getting her driver's license. (Gulp! Sob!) She's taking private driving lessons from the very same instructor that I did a deliberately vague number of years ago.

And Emily started taking guitar lessons last night. After only one class she can already play a song on the guitar she got for Christmas. The song is Row, Row, Row Your Boat and she is thrilled by her newfound talent. ;) I'd love to tell you more about the lesson, she learned a chord (?), but I am hopelessly clueless about music. She seemed to really enjoy the class and it was fun to see her so excited about it. She came right home and played the song for Roger and Kenzie.

About that insomniac toddler, I have a thoery about that. When he was 15 months old and cosleeping and nursing all night long and kicking Roger and I both out of bed all night long, I reached my breaking point and sought help. I found a book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and I went to work training him to sleep in his own bed and through the night. We had a very rough week, followed by a year of relatively good sleep for all of us. Then he got sick a couple of times and I got him into the habit of waking up and calling for me at night. I would go in and settle him back down. In the past couple of months he's up a couple of times per night at least. So, while Emily was mastering the guitar last night, I gave myself a refresher course of HSHHC and change is imminent.

There's that word again, CHANGE. I think that word has chosen me as it's person for the year. ;)

Wish us luck! And sleep! And a clean house! And a safe driver! And a brilliant musician!

You're little one sounds about the same age as my girl. She recently started waking up during the night and calling for me, but now I just remind her when she goes to bed "no crying for mommy, and no crawling out of the crib" works like a charm :)

Thanks Amy! I'll try it. Goodness knows he doesn't hear that when he's in a rage and screaming for me in the middle of the night. LOL Perhaps at bedtime, while he's still rational, will work.

Wow, good things are going on at your house!! Very fun.

I might need to get that book.. Kaitlyn is no longer sleeping through the night (it was hit or miss before). GRRR She just screams and cries until I get her. I'm still nursing her and she's so small that I don't want to deprive her.. but at the same time, I'm TIRED! I might try a sippy of water in there.. maybe that's all she needs? Who knows.

You've totally inspired me with your cleaning.. My current project is my bedroom. :o)

Trish, my "baby" is driving with a learner's permit. I am such a nervous wreck driving with my kids when they are learning. Scary stuff, letting your kids grow up and hopefully be responsisble!

I hate when sickness sets us back on the sleep issue! We've had that as well. Thankfully, it never takes as long as the first time to get back into the habit!

Glanda~I'm able to stay pretty calm when I'm in the car with them. But once they get their license and they're out driving...suddenly every time I come upon an accident I'm doing a mental tally of where each of my kids should be at that time of day.

Tawnya~ I hope you're right. I did end up letting him cry last night at 11:30 when he thought we should get up and watch TV. He screamed till midnight. I went back in there (I know, I know) and he finally settled down and slept till nearly 8 this morning.

Becky~ You should get the book. It really saved me when I first started using the thoery here.

Lol, swimsuits in January!! Just what we need, at this time of year.
Perhaps we're supposed to go buy the swimsuit we'd like to wear come June and hang it over the closet to inspire us to keep eating Special K.
CHANGE it is then! Enjoy your year of Change! Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Sounds like a nearly perfect mom. We hesitate to ask, is there anyone to give you a break for a day. Thanks for sharing fellow Utah-an. Stop by our blog and leave us a note.

That's so cool about Emily! She really does suprise me everytime we go over there. She's smart and can remember things better then I can. It's also fascinating how fast she learns things! We're so proud of her.

I know the feeling of getting woken up a lot at night. Lily has been sick and she calls for me too. I was nursing her in the middle of the night when she was waking up. I'm happy to say she is sleeping now that she's not so sick.

Amber!!!
Where have you been?!?! LOL
I'm glad to hear that Lily is feeling a little better. I hope you guys can make it for dinner this week.
Oh! The time is changed to 6pm. I hope that will still work for you guys. It's getting so hard to get you all here at one time. :(
Love you! Kiss Miss Lily for me!
